An all emotional Shahid Afridi , recently axed Pakistan ODI captain has announced retirement from international cricket. This news first caught high-light in a Pakistani Geo channel.
He had already announced retirement from Test cricket in their first test defeat against England last year, but this news has taken the Pakistani fans and , cricket lovers with great shock. He was considered to have played a pivotal role in uniting the national team, after torrid times faced with Pakistani cricket, and went on to lead a spirited team to the World Cup 2011 semi-finals.
He was stripped of his captaincy after his controversial remarks given to media after his arrival from Caribbean tour. Afridi referred to the situation with Waqar, saying,
"Although the differences in team management are not such which could not be solved, I feel everyone should do his job and need not interfere in other's work".
That led to the board issuing him a show cause notice to explain his remarks, and presumably formed part of the reasons for his removal. Subsequently Afridi decided to pull outof the two ODIs against Ireland; speculation was that he was unhappy over his ouster, though he said it was because of his father's ill-health.
