Both players have met thrice since 2008 with Azarenka having a clean upper edge over Peer 3-0.
In the last ten matches played this year, Azarenka has twice lost to Sharapova and Williams. Her latest defeat was at Madrid when she lost in final to Serena Williams 1-6, 3-6.
Peer has had a difficult time so far, as she has lost six of her last ten matches. She last lost to V. Lepchenko 7-6(2) 6-4 at Madrid. She moves to the second round after defeating S Peng 7-6(4) 4-6. Peng retired in the third set when the score was 3-1 in Peer's favour.
