The Australian defeated Giraldo 4-6 6-2 6-4 in the first round of the ATP Rome, while it the first appearance of Djokovic at Rome after losing in the semi final of Madrid.
The two players have only played two matches in their career against each other, with both winning one each. Tomic beat Djokovic at ATP Kooyong (AUS) 6-4 3-6 7-5 in 2010, while Djokovic defeated Tomic at 2011 Wimbledon after losing the second set to the Australian 6-2 3-6 6-3 7-5.
In the last ten matches played by each player this year, Tomic has lost four matches, last being against R. Stepanek 2-6, 5-7 at Madrid.
As for the Serbian, he has lost twice in 2012 and his last loss was at Madrid at the hands of J. Tipsarevic 7-6(2) 6-3 in the semi final.
